Microsoft's recently-unveiled Lumia 640 smartphone is now officially available for purchase in the UK, straight from the company's online store.
The Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL made their official debut back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 trade show in early March, arriving as affordable Windows 10 -ready devices with mid-range specifications on board.
Not too long ago, Microsoft started taking pre-orders for the two smartphones in the UK, and the Lumia 640 is now officially available for purchase from the Microsoft Store in the country.
The new Microsoft Lumia 640 is now available in the UK from the Microsoft Store, sporting a £169.99 price tag. It seems that interested customers in the UK can only purchase the black and orange avatars of the smartphone for now, as other color options don't seem to be on offer at this point.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the Microsoft Lumia 640 sports a 5-inch LCD display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor under the hood, paired with 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 0.9-megapixel front shooter. A 2,500 mAh battery will keep things up and running and should deliver a good battery performance.
On the software side, the Microsoft Lumia 640 ships with Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Denim out of the box, but will receive the latest Windows 10 OS when it's ready for public release. The smartphone also comes with a free one-year subscription to Office 365, courtesy of Microsoft, to further sweeten the deal.
As previously mentioned, the Microsoft Lumia 640 is now available SIM-free from the Microsoft Store UK, sporting a price tag of £169.99 including taxes. In addition, the smartphone will also become available from other sources "in the coming days and weeks." Microsoft further notes that carriers and third-party retailers should also have some deals in store for the Lumia 640, but doesn't reveal any other details at this point.
