Purported iPad Mini 4 design leaks in new photos, video

The purported iPad Mini 4 has just leaked online in a new video, as well as a few photos showing its cover.

The current iPad Mini 3 made its debut back in October 2014 and its successor is expected to become official around the same time this year, which means it's still several months away. Nevertheless, the rumor mill is always busy churning in anticipation and some new details regarding the iPad Mini 4's design have now surfaced online.

The new photos and video allegedly showing the next-generation iPad Mini 4 come from trusted tipster @OnLeaks (via Nowhereelse) and reveal some design changes. At first glance, the new tablet seems quite similar to the iPad Mini 3 in design, but a closer look reveals some notable differences.

First of all, the purported iPad Mini 4 appears to be thinner than the current generation, and it has two rows of 10 holes to the side of the connection port so as not to obstruct the speakers. The iPad Mini 3 has four rows of 14 holes. Moreover, the new slate also features a tiny hole housing a microphone. Overall, the design of the purported iPad Mini 4 seems more similar to the iPad Air 2 rather than the iPad Mini 3.

It remains unclear at this point just what size the iPad Mini 4 will be, but it's still early on to know anything for sure. In terms of specs, the next-generation iPad Mini is rumored to pack an Apple A8X or a new A9 processor, which should also power the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus later this year.

At the same time, Apple is also expected to launch a larger 12.9-inch iPad this year, unofficially dubbed the iPad Pro or iPad Air Plus, with an oxide TFT (IGZO) display and nop-notch specs.

Nothing is officially confirmed at this point, however, so make sure to take all leaks, rumors and reports with a hefty grain of salt, even when the source has a good track record. The iPad Mini 4 is still months away from its debut and more information will surely surface in the months to come. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so check back. In the meantime, check out the leaked video below.
