GoPro Has Announced the HERO4 Session Camera

GoPro's mountable tiny cameras are well-known and appreciated by the enthusiasts of extreme videos. The adventuresome types can easily film their videos while keeping their hands free.

Meet HERO4 Session, the next generation action camera. This new camera from GoPro is the first major redesign since 2007, when the original Digital Hero was launched. But the Session has not just pretty new looks. It is waterproof and it is the first GoPro camera that can survive extreme activities without a case, a significant step forward. It is also the smallest GoPro to date, with a weight of just 2.6 ounces and its cube shape of half inch.

The Session is simpler to operate and it doesn't require a plastic box to be used under water, unlike its bulkier older predecessors. Users will be able to control the entire operation of the HERO4 Session camera by a separately sold remote or a companion iPhone app. On the Session camera you'll find only buttons to turn on WiFi and recording.

It took GoPro three years to develop the Hero4 Session. The new camera comes with several advantages over its older counterparts. Besides the fact that it doesn't need a case to be shockproof or waterproof, its new microphone system works in a similar way to human ears. The GoPro can record clear audio just moments after leaving the water.  When the camera detects high amount of wind noise on the front microphone the Session switches automatically to a rear-facing microphone. It can also automatically rotate the video depending on its mounting orientation.

The price tag for HERO4 Session will be $399, same price as for the HERO4 Silver. This is much more than for another cube-shaped camera on the market, Polaroid's CUBE priced at only $99. But for the fans of the GoPro world, the price won't be as much of a surprise. The advantage is that you'll be able to use with the Session wall other mounts and accessories from the previous models of GoPro cameras.

The Session will record in SuperView, GoPro's proprietary display size. Like the other HERO models before, the Session can stretch recordings if you want to achieve a wider perspective on your extreme video footage. Among the certain users of the new HERO4 Session will be included Google, which will create immersive 360-degree virtual reality videos by using a 16-camera mount with HERO4 cameras. GoPro, which is aiming to position itself as a media company as well as a hardware company will become perhaps soon a leading player in the virtual reality video recording industry.
