Samsung Announces World's First Ultra-HD Blu-Ray Player

Tech giant Samsung has announced the world's first ultra-high definition Blu-ray player. The annual event, held every first week of Sept., is also an avenue in which other big names in tech are launching their products. Samsung has been widely speculated to launch its new flagships at the IFA for the past few months.

Based on Internet reports, Samsung's IFA stint has been widely followed, with the Korean electronics company holding a jam-packed press conference in the event. The announcement of the Ultra high-definition Blu-ray player is the first product of its kind to be introduced in the event. This is also a first for 4K and HDR videos. According to Indian Express, the new device supports UHD Blu-ray disc playback.

The player, which sports a curved design that matches Samsung's SUHD TVs, is able to display HDR colours.  The display is four times the resolution of the regular players these days. Also, the player is equipped with a colour expression that's 64 times higher than standard Blu-ray players nowadays. The device also supports the HDMI 2.0a specification. The new UHD player boasts better contrast, resolution and colours. The UHD TV will be made available in Europe first before other countries in the world.

In its statement in the company's official Samsung Tomorrow site, the company stated that the IFA 2015  is all about bringing the Internet of Things or IoT to life. W.P. Hong, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Electronics said, "Today, our products are used by 85 million Europeans - at home, and increasingly at work." He added that no other company is in the best position to ensure that the advancements in gadgets will be brought by people's expectations. "Our vision is of an IoT that's 'In Sync With Life', that's an IoT for you." He iterated that the company sells over 300 million electronic devices to Europe every year.

Samsung's introduction in the first day of the IFA (the event opened on Sept 4), is the Samsung Gear S2, the company's second-generation smartwatch. The device has been announced earlier. The smartwatch sports a screen display of 1.2 inches, which is smaller than those of other smartwatches today. The Gear S2 is also equipped with the Tizen operating system.

Samsung indeed holds true to the company's claim that the event will be for the Internet of Things with its new releases. This does not make followers anticipate its new flagships less. The IFA is still ongoing. The event goes on from Sept 4 to Sept 9.
