Impressive Sales Leave Amazon Out Of Stock Of Its Fire Phone

Despite its critics, the Amazon Fire Phone is out of stock. It took around one year for Amazon until it exhausted its supply. On the product's page, the device is listed now as "currently unavailable," and an additional note stating that the company doesn't know when the item will be back in stock. Both the 32GB and 64GB models are in the same situation.

The news was first reported by Geekwire. A spokeswoman for Amazon also confirmed that the company sold out of its inventory of Fire Phones at the end of August in the U.S. and globally. This is pretty impressive for a phone that received many critics from tech and market analysts.

The fact that the product is sold out proves that consumers received better than some analysts. However, the Fire Phone is unlikely to make reappearance since Amazon seems to not have plans to manufacture it anymore. The giant online retailer stopped the production of the Fire Phone because it is preparing to launch a cheap 6-inch tablet that it will cost only $50.

The Seattle retailer presented its Fire phone for the first time at the July 2014 launch event. Among the phone's capabilities are included  the ability to navigate the user interface using dynamic perspective and a service called Firefly for quickly finding and identify songs, books, DVDs, phone numbers and more.

In October 2014, a spokesman for Amazon declared that the company had sold $83 million worth of inventory at the end of the third quarter. At launch, the Fire phone came with a price tag of $649 without a contract and $199 in a bundle with a two-year AT&T service agreement.

Later on, the company dropped the price of the Fire Phone to as low as 99 cents with a two-year wireless contract on AT&T and this summer the cost of the phone without a contract came down to $60, including a free year of Amazon Prime (a value of $99).

With this kind of deals, it is not surprising that sales increased significantly and the phone went out of stock by the end of the summer. However, just because Amazon sold the device out it doesn't mean that the phone is completely unavailable.

For instance, it can still be purchased from an eBay seller on eBay for $139 with a year of Prime and a warranty. The seller declared that he sold so far 12,960 devices and it is more than 90 percent sold out at the moment.
