A Stand-Alone News App From Facebook Will Arrive Next Week

The largest social network in the world shows no signs of stopping - Facebook last September averaged over 1 billion daily users, and it just keeps on getting bigger and bigger. And to further its world domination, the company has announced that they will be releasing a stand-alone app to bring fresh out of the oven news to its massive user base.

According to reports, Facebook is planning to launch a new stand-alone app called Notify that will further the company's push in the news spectrum. Facebook has partnered with several media companies such as the Washington Post, CBS, CNN and Vogue. Entertainment publishers such as CBS, Comedy Central and Billboard magazine are also involved in the partnership.

Notify will send out alerts to its users about newly published stories from professional media outlets in order for the social network to compete with the likes of Snapchat and Twitter for dominating the mobile news category. This would appear logical as people would prefer browsing using their mobile devices instead of firing up a computer and going through several steps for multimedia consumption.

Facebook first made its push in the mobile news category with its Instant Articles that embeds news stories into the mobile app. However, Notify will be a stand-alone app that users would need to download from app store of their respective mobile platforms.

Notify and its in-app features are designed to reduce the load time of stories and provide Facebook the chance to become the hot spot for news from its media partners. Should the app launch next week, the company will be having another addition to its single use apps along with Poke, Camera, Messenger, Slingshot, Pages and Groups.

The largest social network has made its way into the top position in mobile advertising with its grand success in their mobile apps. According to reports, Facebook's mobile ad revenue managed to rack up $3.3 billion in its third quarter, accounting to more than 75 percent of the company's ad revenue.
