New Google Play Services Update Brings Several Improvements

In its latest announcement, Mountain View just made Google Play services 8.4 widely available. Therefore bringing new features and updates that introduces a more convenient way for users to share the apps they love to use, a more precise way of determining a user's location, and new APIs designed for fitness data.

Google, through the official Android Developers blog, detailed the new features. App Invites, a technology that allows users to share apps with people within their circles, now features a much easier way for them to share via email.

Before, users can make custom emails that have user-defined text as well as an image. With the update, users can now add content from the app directly into the message, allowing them to fully define the email body using HTML, as well as setting the email subject line.

For example, a user has a favorite cooking app that they want to share within their circle, the invitation to use the app can now include a favorite recipe from the app. This way, the recipients will be able to get the immediate benefit and access to the desired content, giving them a more informed choice if they want to push through with the invite or not.

Users will also be able to choose if they want a more accurate location or better battery life via the Location settings. Also known as 'Fused Location Provider' (FLP), the feature provides location to the user's apps through a number of sensors such as GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular towers. For saving more on battery life, the feature will forgo GPS and just settle with cellular networks and Wi-Fi to determine the user's location.

Furthermore, there's also an update to the fitness APIs, which brings third-party app support as well as Android Wear watchfaces to deliver more accurate step counts.
