Apple CarPlay Arriving To Selected Hyundai Cars Next Year

Back in April of 2014, Hyundai was one of the biggest car manufacturers that promised to deliver CarPlay to its automobiles. However, the company still has yet to actually ship the update to add the feature that it wanted to bring to its customers. Now, it seems that the automaker is finally set to make Apple's in-car system presently available during the first quarter of next year.

According to reports, owners of a Hyundai Sonata can expect a software update to arrive during the early parts of next year, which will enable the CarPlay feature on supported models through an iPhone. Furthermore, selected models of the company's 2015 and 2016 Sonatas that feature in-dash displays will also be able to support CarPlay. However, it is important to note that CarPlay will require an iPhone 5 or later to work.

While there's still no specific date for the CarPlay update to arrive, the first quarter of next year is the most specific detail the company has provided for the software update. Hyundai has been going big on demoing CarPlay in its Sonatas for more than a year now, although there were no signs back then as to when the company will be bringing the feature to its users. Also, Hyundai is one of the companies that is offering Android Auto to its customers for free.

Further reports also suggest that the software update will be available for free. However, users will need to purchase an SD card in order for them to update the head unit. Users can easily purchase an SD card from different market channels if they want to do the update themselves.

Once CarPlay arrives for Sonata owners, Hyundai will then be one of the major automobile manufacturers alongside Chevrolet and Honda to offer the software in their vehicles.
