Macbook Air 2016 Not Dead Yet; Macbook Pro 2016 To Get New Feature And Major Upgrades

Rumors are circulating that Apple would be discontinuing its MacBook Air line. The end of the popular portable laptop was speculated because of the release of the 2016 MacBook, which is reportedly thinner and lighter than the Air. Logically, what made the Air stand out would be negated by the new line. More recent news is stating that the Air will stay in development, but will no longer receive an upgrade.

According to Mashable, the MacBook Air has not received a revamp since early on in 2015. The design, even, has not been changed since 2010. However, the publication argues that, as it is, the MacBook Air is still one of the best laptop options on the market. This then means that Apple has no reason to pull these units out of stores and stop manufacturing them. In truth, the unit may not get any further upgrades, but this does not mean they will no longer be available.

One series from Apple that is getting an upgrade though is the MacBook Pro. In fact, Parent Herald reports that the 2016 MacBook Pro will have at least two features that has never been present before. That is, the latest Skylake processor and the newest MacOS Sierra. Other than this, it is expected to have a Touch ID, NFC chip and possibly wireless charging.

The MacOS Sierra alone is expected to bring in a slew of new features for the MacBook Pro. The most exciting of which is arguable Siri. For the first time in Apple's history, its virtual assistant will be available for users on a device other than their handhelds. While Siri will work more or less as it does on the iPhone, it is also expected to have special commands for the MacBook.

The 2016 MacBook Pro should be arriving in a sleeker, thinner and more portable design now. And it is possible that it will be the cheapest in its series when it arrives this fall.
