Bungie Confirms E3 Absence This Year, No Announcements on ‘Destiny’

The first details on the next project from Halo studio Bungie have been revealed, giving new hope to gamers who expect to learn more at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next week.

Bungie, however, comes with disappointing news for gamers, as the studio has no plans to reveal anything at the E3 conference. In a post on its official blog, the Bungie Mail Sack, the studio said it will not make any announcements related to its upcoming franchise, which will be published by video game publisher Activision.

Lurking, but No Official Capacity

"We're not going to be at E3 in any official capacity this year," Bungie wrote in its blog post. "Some of us will be there, lurking from booth to booth, but don't expect any announcements."

Asked whether the studio has wrapped up its game presentation for the event, one representative said the firm never made any plans to start one, The Verge reported. "Nope. We never started one," the studio responded.

Information on Bungie's next project was revealed through an unsealed court document, part of the ongoing lawsuit between Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former heads of Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward, and Activision. According to the recently revealed court documents, Bungie is developing a massively multiplayer sci-fi game called Destiny. The game will reportedly be "compatible with the Xbox 360, Xbox 720 and the Sony PlayStation 4," as well as PCs.

First Game to Launch in 2013

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, Bungie's 10-year contract with Activision requires four "sci-fantasy, action shooter" games. The first game in the project codenamed "Destiny" is supposed to launch in 2013. So far there are no other details on the games, but gamers are expecting exciting things from Destiny and the Halo developers. Unfortunately, this does not seem to happen anytime soon, and the E3 conference will certainly not bring new announcements from Bungie.

The E3 show, owned and operated by the Electronic Software Association (ESA), will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, June 5 - 7, 2012.
