Microsoft Improves Xbox Interactivity; Acquires Beam's Livestreaming Technology

Microsoft wants to give the players using Xbox a better experience. To achieve that, the company is purchasing a small startup known as Beam Interactive. According to Fortune, Beam specializes in developing technology that is used for livestreaming games. The move aims to help improve the player experience of Xbox, especially with interactivity.

Beam Interactive created a software development kit that allowed the modification of existing games so players can actually share their gaming sessions with others. The software also allows other players to manipulate the game in real time and not just view it. That means the total gaming experienced would really be enhanced.

Beam Interactive debuted a beta version of its software way back in May. That means the software is still in the development and testing process. Microsoft was sufficiently impressed with what they saw, which prompted the tech giant to make an offer to buy the startup.

Now Microsoft is planning to integrate the technology that was developed Beam Interactive into its own Xbox. Microsoft representatives are excited about the new changes that can be brought about by the new software when combined with their own gaming technology.

Current users of Beam Interactive are assured by its CEO, Matt Salsamendi that nothing would be changing for them. He gave them an assurance that they can still use the software to make changes to any game that they want.

PC World reports that Beam works like other livestreaming services. The users can browse the current games being played. They can follow the progress of the game and even leave comments on the chat box. One of the best things about Beam's technology is that it has very little latency. That means the technology would allow viewers to see almost the same thing that a player is seeing while playing the game.
