Sony's 'PlayStation Now' For The PC and Mac: Release, Details And Game List

Sony is expanding the PlayStation by turning it into a "service" that is available on other platforms. In order to do this, the company has dreamt up PlayStation Now, which will make PS titles available for play on the PC and on the Mac.

According to Digital Trends, the expansion already began with the Remote Play Client, which was available on the PlayStation 4. It allowed console players to stream their games on either their desktop or their laptop.

The publication claims that Sony is expected to make the big PlayStation Now announcement on August 23. However, Sony has already sent out invitations for a PS event this September 7. While it was initially thought that the event would unveil the PlayStation Neo, it is highly possible that both announcements will be made. After all, the invite was mysteriously noted as a "PlayStation Meeting."

PlayStation Now is a streaming service that allows users to play PS2 and PS3 games on the PS4, the PS Vita handheld, the PS TV set-top box. As it is, there are more than 400 games available, which includes "The Last Of Us," as well as the "Uncharted" and "God Of War" series. Because it is simply a streaming service, powerful hardware is not a requirement - just a good connection that can cover at least 12 megabits per second.

It does, however, come at a price. The service is currently available for $20 a month or $45 for three months. Players also have the option to rent games, which cost $3 for four hours, $6 for seven days, $8 for 30 days and $15 for 90 days.

According to PlayStation, the game lineup also currently includes "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel," "The Darkness II," "Spec Ops: The Line" and "Duke Nukem Forever."

Reportedly, PlayStation Now for the desktop is currently in its closed beta stage.
