Nintendo NX To Sport Split D Pad And Share Button; Save Stills For Friends

There is no shortage of speculation surrounding the upcoming Nintendo NX. But as the launch date inches closer and closer, more details are seeping through the cracks. And while Nintendo has not given its official confirmation on any public expectations, the information keeps pilling up just the same.

What Is It This Time?

According to IGN, the Nintendo NX - which is only a codename at this point - will sport a share button and a split D-pad.

With regards to the share button, the feature is expected to work exactly like the one found on PlayStation 4's DualShock 4. Theoretically, the additional button will allow users to share still images and videos of the game they are playing directly onto social media sites. So with the press of a button, users will be able to post photos and videos on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Furthermore, the feature is also expected to save these images on an external memory, which can then be used to transfer the media files onto a PC.

The split D-pad, however, is more of a mystery. At this point, there is no clear reason why Nintendo would drop its solid D-pad, which is visible in all other controllers.

What Were The Others?

As Business Insider notes, the Japanese company did promise that its next console would be a "brand new concept." Furthermore, its late president Satoru Iwata once made a point that portable consoles are now much more popular than home-bound ones. With this in mind, Nintendo has every intention to cater to the larger mass of individuals. This is why the Nintendo NX is expected to be a hybrid device - easy enough to bring around, but powerful enough to be hooked onto the television.

This power, however, is not meant to compete against the PS4 or the Xbox One, as Nintendo readily admits. Nevertheless, the upcoming device will be more powerful that the current Wii U.

As such, the company has focused on providing a unique experience from the games that will be compatible with the console. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Just Dance 2017" have been confirmed titles.
