NBA Rumors: Cavs To Trade Kevin Love For Carmelo Anthony?

The Cavs’ big three could look much different next season as reports suggest the possibility of a trade that will send power forward Kevin Love to the Knicks for swingman Carmelo Anthony. The Cavs are said to be looking for a way to keep up with the Golden State Warriors, who recently acquired superstar Kevin Durant to form the most formidable starting five on paper.

The Cavaliers have been battling reports this summer of an impending Kevin Love trade, linking him to swaps with Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins and Boston’s Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder. But with those two deals seemingly fizzling out, the Cavs are said to be looking elsewhere to send their big man, who has been struggling to fit in with the Cavaliers system. And all this drama could lead them to the New York Knicks to form a new super team consisting of Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, and Carmelo Anthony. Love averaged exactly 16 points per game and about 10 rebounds a night last season, a far cry from his Minnesota Timberwolves days where he was putting up monster stats where at one point Love averaged about 26 points and 15 rebounds with 4.5 assists per night.

As for Carmelo Anthony, he could provide more speed and firepower to the Cavs. His unbelievable basketball talents seem to be wasted on bad New York teams and at 32 years old, his window of opportunity is starting to close. Anthony can provide the Cavaliers more firepower and could play the power forward position to stretch the floor more for Kyrie and Lebron. He could also play better defense, especially on the pick and roll where Kevin Love has struggled all season long.

According to a statement by Anthony’s college coach Jim Boeheim, Carmelo Anthony is “unlikely to win an NBA title.” Well, if the Cavs can pull this trade off, then this might be his best chance for getting that elusive Larry O’Brien trophy before his career ends.
