Upcoming PlayStation 4 Models: Slim and Pro, Specs and Prices Revealed

As if the rumors about the revamped version of the already powerful hardware of PlayStation 4-formerly dubbed as PS4 "Neo"-does not feel real enough, Sony announces a statement that make these rumors become true as it mentions about PlayStation 4's newer and better models, the Slim and the Pro.

From the recently-held 2016 PlayStation meeting, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO, Andrew House, unveiled to the public of the reality behind the PlayStation 4 Slim which was said to be scheduled for launch in September 15, 2016 with a price tag of $299/£259/€299/¥29,980, according to region, as initially reported at Siliconera.

When it's released, it will replace the older but original model as the standard for PlayStation 4 for its overall better configuration. The PlayStation 4 Slim offers the following features: smaller and slimmer build, better processing power, and equally important, more efficiency in how it consumes energy. In conjunction with these improvements are the changes in the unit's accessory, the Dual Shock 4 wireless controller, which goes through a redesign, obviously seen from the light bar in front attached to it.

However, those who would prefer a more superior experience with their PlayStation 4 gaming experience would likely to opt for the better version that is the PlayStation 4 Pro which was already revealed in the same event that brought us the news about PlayStation Slim. But unlike the Slim model, PlayStation Pro is slated for a later release at November 10, 2016 for a price tag of $399/44,980 yen/€399/£349, depending on region. The news comes from another separate report from Siliconera.

According to the PlayStation 4 Lead system architect, Mark Cerny, the PlayStation Pro should feature an improvement on the following configuration:

  •  Better graphics processing power through an enhanced GPU
  •  Faster computing through an improved CPU clock
  •  Doubled hard disk space at 1Tb capacity

While there was not a specific mention whether the Slim model is 4k resolution compatible, the Pro model definitely is, which certain gamers will show great interest of for a superb gaming experience.
