iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak – Downgrade iOS 6 Beta 1 To iOS 5.1.1 (Steps, Download Link)

Many Apple fans installed the iOS 6 Beta 1 firmware to test out some of its new functionality, but eventually got tired of not having an Untethered Jailbreak. Others, meanwhile, found the firmware to be a bit too buggy and looked for options to downgrade back to iOS 5.1.1. Well, now there is an option to that and it’s pretty easy.

The primary reason as to why the process is easy is because you do not need to have saved SHSH blobs or even use tools like TinyUmbrella or iFaith. You will only need to put your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad in DFU mode and restore it back to the iOS 5.1.1 firmware regularly. Moreover, Apple is still signing the iOS 5.1.1 firmware.

So what needs to be done to perform the downgrade? Just follow the steps below.

Step 1: First what you’ll need to do is download the iOS 5.1.1 firmware file for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. You can do this by visiting this page.

Step 2: Plug your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into your computer (if you have not already done that via your USB cable) and now you will need to put your iDevice into DFU mode by following the instructions below:

  • Turn off your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
  • Hold down Power (corner) button for 5 seconds.
  • Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center) button along with the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Without releasing the home button, stop holding down the power button for up to 15 seconds.

Step 3: If you entered DFU mode correctly your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad should show a black screen, and iTunes should popup alerting you your iOS device is in recovery mode (it will not be able to tell you information about your iOS device).

With your iOS device in DFU mode, you will simply need to SHIFT click the Restore button on Windows or Option (alt) click the Restore button on Mac OS X and select your applicable iOS 5.1.1 IPSW.

Step 4: Your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad will now start being restored back to the iOS 5.1.1firmware. (Important: this process can take up to 10 minutes)

You should be successfully done by now.
