Pokemon Generations Anime Series Announced

Loyal fans of Pokemon couldn't get enough of it since its debut on 1996. Now, it has generated approximately $45 million in revenue from games, trading cards, and adorable merchendise.

The hype doesn't stop at Pokemon Go though, since The Pokemon Company has announced that it will be releasing its new animated series of shorts paying homage to the Pokemon Generations - everything you need to know about the Pokemon games and their history, highlighting the best events within the games. From Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow to Pokemon X and Y - consisting of 18 episodes with varying lengths from about three to five minutes. It is a way for the new fans to familiarize themselves with important Pokemon history and for loyal fans to see them come alive right on their screens.

This new series is independent from the anime - which some fans found to be a good thing since it won't be having Ash Ketchum as the protagonist. Generations will become the first animated series from The Pokemon Company created solely for YouTube.

A Pokemon generation is a group of Pokemon released with the game they debuted with. For example, the first generation was released in the Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow versions. The highly anticipated Pokemon Sun and Moon, coming up this November 18 for the Nintendo 3DS, will be the seventh generation.

Pokemon Generations will debut on its first two episodes on September 16 at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET. at the official Pokemon YouTube channel.

There's also been leaks from a copy of the magazine CoroCoro online, which featured the upcoming game Pokemon Sun and Moon and it's tieup with the anime series. It will continue the adventures of Ash and his buddy Pikachu set at the new Alola Region - where Ash was shipped off by his mother and Professor Oak to finally get his middle school degree. Not much is known about the upcoming season, but there will be a bunch of new characters and starter Pokemon to look forward to.
