‘Drifters’ Anime: Things To Know About New Gore Funimation Series

Another gore anime is coming to the screens. Funimation has picked up Kouta Hirano's Japanese manga "Drifters," and is set to premiere in October 7. Recently the production released a heart pumping teaser.

"JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's" Kenichi Suzuki is directing the "Drifters" anime while Ryoji Nakamori (Hellsing Ultimate)designed the characters and is also the chief animation director, Anime News Network reported.

Real-life Historical Figures Come To Life

The plot of the gore anime revolves around a real-life historical figure Shimazu Toyohisa, a samurai who fought in the crucial Battle of Sekigahara. As he was dying, Shimazu is transported to another world where not just humans but also fantastical being like elves and hobbits exist.

In the world where he was transported, the humans are on the losing end with a war against the other races. Shimazu and other famous warriors like him throughout the history are gathered by Murasaki to form a group called "Drifters" and fight against the "Ends," another group of warriors with magical capabilities. The catch is, all members of the of the "Drifters" have common characteristics. They are overly violent, hates to lose and doesn't care about hurting innocent people to get their goal. Will they be able to save the human race?

"Drifters" manga is being published by Dark Horse comics since April 2009. It currently has five volumes while the anime will  have 12 episodes.
