"Marvel Heroes" Closed Beta is set to arrive on Oct. 1 and beta signups have already begun. The best news, however, is that it's a free MMO with a lot of ambitions and potential.

The Closed Beta will provide access to three new playable characters - Daredevil, Punisher, and Squirrel Girl - which were recently revealed at PAX. Although the Closed Beta will start with a relatively small number of people, the company has assured that more players will be added over time. So, if users don't get in right away, they will still be eligible for selection. However, even though the company says that it will try to let in as many people as possible, no guarantee exists that users will get selected eventually.

The upcoming MMO is set in the iconic Marvel Universe. The "Marvel Heroes" will combine the core gameplay style of Action RPG's and MMOs with the expansive library of heroes from the Marvel Universe. Players, while in the game, can collect and play as their favorite Marvel Superheroes, which includes characters like Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Hulk, Spider Man, Captain America etc.

Players can also team up with friends and try to stop Doctor Doom from destroying the world with the power of the Cosmic Cube.
