Sony has revealed the newest and leanest avatar of its popular PlayStation gaming console - a super slim PS3. The super slim, as the name suggests, is a smaller and the lighter version of the current-generation PlayStation 3.
"Thanks to a complete redesign of the internal architecture, the volume and weight of the new PS3 has been reduced by more than half compared to the very first PS3 model with a 60GB HDD, and by 25% and 20% respectively compared to the current PS3," states the official Press Release.
The new console, which is half the weight and volume of the original machine, will be available in three specifications - one with a 500GB hard drive, which is set for an Oct. 30 release, available for $299 (for North America, Europe and Japan), a 250GB version for $269 (for North America and Japan) arriving on Sept. 25, and a budget version with 12GB flash memory (for Europe only) for $296, arriving on Oct. 12. Like Nintendo, Sony will allow stores to set the retail price for the new super slim consoles.
The new version has retained the curved structure of its predecessors and features a Blu-ray drive for playing high-definition movies as well as games, which is similar to the original console.
"By adopting a sliding disk cover, the new PS3 continues with the characteristic sleek curved body design, which fits various places in the home and enables users to enjoy an array of entertainment content."
The company also revealed that the 250GB version will arrive with the "Uncharted 3 Game of the Year Edition" bundle, which means that customers will save over $70 with the 250GB model as well as the bundle.
The "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Game of the Year Edition" is Nathan Drake's latest adventure that sees Drake travelling into the heart of the Arabian Desert, and also includes over $45 of Bonus Content. Another free-to-play game "DUST 514" will be available exclusively on the PlayStation Network.
The 250GB bundle consists of "Uncharted 3: Game of the Year Edition," "Dust 514" game with over $30 of Dust DLC (Voucher), DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller, AC Power Cord, AV Cable, and USB Cable.
