Facebook Messenger For iOS 6, iPhone 5 Updated

The Facebook Messenger for iOS has received a brand new update that makes it compatible for devices running the latest iOS 6 mobile OS from Apple, including the newly unveiled iPhone 5.

The new Messenger update, 2.0, now offers support for the iPhone 5's taller screen resolution. What's more, users can now swipe anywhere in the app to quickly see who's available and send a message, accordingly.

The update also makes it possible to add friends, who users interact with frequently, to the top of the Favorites. Additionally, a new design for conversations and other features like bug fixes and improved speed and reliability are now available. For additional information, users can check out the App Store for the update.

Even though Google and Apple are at loggerheads post the removal of the Google Maps app in favor of Apple's own maps app, that hasn't stopped the search giant from updating its apps that are still running on Apple-based devices.

Apple too is currently sending out updates for its apps. New fixes to the new Apple-based Maps seem to be the need of the hour, as users have shown massive dissatisfaction when working with the newly built Maps app. Apple's CEO Tim Cook has already mentioned a number of third-party map applications that users can download while the company works to improve its in-house offering to avoid future problems.

Additionally, Google's e-mail service for iOS, Gmail, has also been updated and optimized for the iPhone 5's 4-inch Retina display. This feature is one of the many updates that Google has been rolling out for its apps on the iOS since the introduction of iOS 6. With the new update, owners of iPhone 5 will be able to see more inbox messages with all the extra space now obtained with the new handset, in the bottom

However, as the update description states that the app has been optimized for iPhone 5, expecting too many functionality changes at one go would be foolish. Nonetheless, more changes and updates are expected to arrive for the Google-based apps, mainly for the YouTube app, which is eagerly awaited.
