‘Making A Murderer’ Latest Updates: Brendan Dassey Is Guilty; Netflix Accused Of Being Biased On The Convict’s Innocence

“Making A Murderer’s” subject Brendan Dassey’s hope of being freed from his lengthy stay in prison might not come to fruition. Despite the hard work of his legal counsel, it seems that Dassey’s war to innocence and freedom remains to be in the dark side.

Early this week, Wisconsin's Attorney General Brad Schimel has requested a federal appeals court to let stand the conviction of Dassey found guilty in a case featured in the hit documentary of Netflix’s "Making a Murderer” per Fox News.

In a brief filed with the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the attorney general pursues abandonment of Dassey's claim that his confession was forced.

Furthermore, the lawyer stated that "substantial police coercion" is required for any confession to be involuntary, and that the Wisconsin Court of Appeals was right to affirm in 2013 that Dassey's was voluntary, hence, his appeal on the magistrate's ruling to the contrary should be reversed.

Schimel also said that “The state courts’ conclusion that Dassey’s confession was voluntary is not only reasonable; it is entirely correct. Accordingly, Dassey is not entitled to relief”.

Following the release of “Making a Murderer” last year, the series caught worldwide attention because of the controversial issues highlighted in the show. Although widely popular, the series’ network was claimed by authorities to be biased on the subjects’ innocence.

According to Morning News USA, Avi Berk, a Legal Analyst of Appleton says, “What I think will happen is either the federal judge’s decision will be upheld, in which case Brendan Dassey will be released, or the federal judge’s decision will be reversed in which case his conviction will be upheld and he will remain in prison under the sentence for that conviction.”

As previously reported, a Milwaukee-based federal judge overturned Brendan Dassey's conviction for the killing and rape of young photographer Teresa Halbach.
