Microsoft Xbox SmartGlass App Now Available For iOS

The SmartGlass Xbox app from Microsoft made its debut on Android-based Google Play Store a couple of weeks ago, and now the company is making its way into the other leading mobile operating system. Per reports, iOS users owning an Xbox 360 can finally get some console action on their iDevices.

Microsoft has currently released SmartGlass as an update to its existing Xbox Live app, pushing it out with the same abilities to control the user's console from their phone or tablet. The new SmartGlass Xbox app is meant to enhance the way a user wants to synchronize their mobile device with the actual console.

"Xbox SmartGlass lets your device work with your Xbox 360 console to bring rich, interactive experiences and unique content about what you're watching or playing, right to the device that's already in your hand," the official App Store page states. "Interact with your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports, and games, and bring remote control to a whole new level."

With Xbox SmartGlass, users can navigate the Xbox 360 with a swipe and a tap, use a smartphone's keyboard to type to the Xbox 360, and browse the Internet on the Xbox 360 with full keyboard and zooming. It is also possible to play, pause, fast forward, rewind, and stop videos and music on the Xbox 360, and search the full Xbox catalog of music, video, and games.

Moreover, iOS users also have the option to connect with their Xbox friends, track and compare achievements, and also change the 3D avatar. The Xbox SmartGlass version 2.0 has arrived with a host of user friendly features that could catapult the app to popularity among iOS users.

However, it is to be noted that the app isn't actually a new app, but an updated version of the existing Xbox App. While the app is fully functional on the iPhone, it's the iPad version actually adds some serious functionality.

Making use of the iPad's huge screen, the iPad app allows easy browsing of related content on the tablet itself, along with the ease of typing in usernames and passwords into the console dialogues. The app is currently compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and requires iOS 5.0 or later.
