Verizon Droid DNA Bootloader Unlocked With Mod

All those who have purchased the new version of the Droid DNA bootloader edition are in for some good news. Per reports, a new mod has arrived that will now successfully unlock the current Verizon-based Droid DNA bootloader.

This information comes as major news for all the Verizon-subscribed Droid DNA owners as now the device can finally be unlocked once more with the help of a brand new mod. While before the availability of the Droid DNA on Verizon, early model owners were able to unlock its bootloader using the HTCDev Web site, once the device went live this was no longer possible and now the phone is currently out there with a locked bootloader status. However, that is about to change.

"When the Droid DNA was first announced, we were all surprised to find that the bootloader was unlockable at HTCdev.com. Because of this, the device actually got root, recovery, and custom kernel days before the official release,” an Android Police report states. “Unfortunately, by the time the device became available in retail channels, Verizon pulled the plug and it was no longer unlocked through official means. Thankfully, there's another way (isn't there always?). The softmod [below] will effectively change the carrier information, allowing it to once again be unlocked via HTC's official tool.”

Nonetheless, users who have a good knowledge about tweaks and mods will know that what this softmod does is that it will basically change the user’s CID (carrier id information) to a model which is indeed supported by the HTCDev website.

This change means that if the user wants to have an unlocked bootloader on his or her Droid DNA then they will need to head over to the source link to get all the files that are needed to achieve this. Users also need make sure to read the step-by-step instructions if they decide to proceed with this and also understand the risks associated.

The HTC Droid DNA was announced on Nov. 21 and is available via Verizon. The phone is currently available for $199.99 provided that the user signs a two-year agreement or $599.99 if the user only wants to purchase the phone.
