Facebook Might Release a Snapchat-Style Camera In Its Main App

Facebook begin testing on Thursday a new camera feature with a limited number of users before realizing it in the market, that offers a fancy filter overlays that add special effects, photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours, Prisma-esque fine art-themed style transfer filters and many other incredible options.

The thing is that this is practically a Snapchat-style camera, which turns Facebook´s inspiration of its rival´s features into an unashamedly direct copy.

An Incredible Feature

The most controversial fact is that the Snapchat-style camera update - which is actually an adapted version of the feature Facebook tested during the 2016 Olympics in Rio- applies to the camera tool built right into the main Facebook app. There will be a new camera icon at the top left corner of the News Feed, or you can just swipe right to open the camera.

According to CNET, the Snapchat-style camera feature includes digital images you can add to the frame like bubbles or hearts, and digital masks which use software to superimpose an image onto your face. Facebook Product Chief Chris Cox demoed at a conference earlier this week all of these options, including another type of filter that reanimates a scene in the style of a famous artist.

Facebook Is Looking To Be More Entertaining For Young Users

Although the Snapchat-style camera it is an undeniable copy of this social media, Facebook´s real innovation is the reactive filters, which cover the screen in leaves you can wave around with your arms, or little-locked line patterns you can actually disrupt with your movements.

As reported by Tech Crunch, the blue social media is making this test regardless if the Snapchat-style camera is a copy or not, because the company needs to look young and fun again to its users, in order to increase its power after 12 years on the market. This is just a clear example of how a giant company can do what it wants to its competition; provided, of course, that the rival in question is a much smaller company..
