‘Hacksaw Ridge' Mel Gibson Movie: True Bloody Story Of Faith, Delivers A Powerful Message To War Veterans

The "Hacksaw Ridge" Mel Gibson movie has just opened in theaters on November 4. This much-anticipated movie is a mixture of bloody gore and courageous faith. Gibson has shown his flair and expertise once again in projecting a controversial angle to fighting a war and winning it by faith.

Critics Believe Gibson Is Up For Another Oscar With This Movie

With the way Gibson has crafted this film, a number of film critics have predicted there will be another Oscar win for Gibson. The movie is rated R because it depicts extended scenes of graphic war violence. But the plot of the movie is based on the true story and war experience of Desmond Doss, a U.S. war medic in World War II.

It Is Actually A Love Story

The "Hacksaw Ridge" movie was shown on Nov. 2, at Sheen Center, Gibson, for the benefit of its faith community. Robert Schenkkan, a Pulitzer Prize winner, and the movie's screenwriter appeared on stage with the director, Mel Gibson. Schenkkan, who worked on the script for 10 years, described "Hacksaw Ridge" as a "love story" that delivers a powerful message about post-traumatic stress disorder and its effects on war veterans.

He stated that the graphic scenes in the Mel Gibson movie were intended to show the audience the real horrors of war. "It's hell, it's war," said Schenkkan. "I wanted to give people an idea what that feels like and what our veterans....suffer as a result of combat situations, the idea of PTSD..... of violence that reduces most men to the level of animals," he added.

Who Really Is Desmond Doss?

Desmond Doss is a Seventh-day Adventist and a conscientious objector. He refused to carry a weapon and vowed not to kill the enemy. But he was able to save his comrades from death in the middle of the battle against the Japanese in World War II. For his heroic feat, he was awarded the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor, the first conscientious objector to be given the distinction.
