PS4 Pro Tips And Tricks: Things To Know Before And After Copying Your PS4 Data

It's November and I bet you already have purchased your PS4 Pro, how else would you land on this article if you haven't, right? Anyways, Sony's mid-gen console of 2016 has already rolled out in stores and you will need to transfer your PS4 data to your Pro. You might feel excited about your new and more powerful console but it pays to be calm and be prepared enough when doing data transfer.

Before you enjoy that 4K gaming thing, it is important to note that in any case, if you transfer important data from one device to another, you should know the dos and don'ts not just during the procedure but before actually doing it. Here are stuff that you need to check before and during data transfer. The complete list of steps for data transfer are posted here, but it is important that you'd read the notes below before proceeding.

Your old PS4 data - When doing the transfer procedure, note that your data will just be successfully copied to the newer device, in this case the PS4 Pro, not really 'moved'. Most people would probably skip this note and it will be a fatal mistake (to your personal data at least) as most people also tend to sell their older device when done migrating to the new. If ignored, this means that you have just given away your information within the old device thinking that when you 'transferred' your data, the older one is now empty of it.

Data security - To avoid giving away your information, you need to erase all data on your old PS4 before you hand it over to someone else. To do so, go to Settings, Initialization, Initialize PS4, then choose 'Full'. Warning: doing this will wipe all your current device's data so at this point, be sure you already have successfully copied them to your new system or have your data stored in a cloud service.

Data on the newer PS4 console - It is also important to note that your destination system, the new PS4 Pro, will have its data overwritten when doing the procedure. If you have just purchased the unit then it won't be a problem but if someone has read this article sometime after the PS4 Pro is released and may have purchased a used one, you should check if there is important data on the system before doing the data transfer procedure.

Ensure that power is always on - During data transfer, it is important that you do not have any power cuts while doing so. When power is out during the procedure, the risks of data loss is high so before you do it, make sure you have your electricity provider in check for power interruption schedules or maintenance checks.

Both units are needed for full transfer - Make sure to do this procedure before selling or handing over your older PS4 to someone else. The transfer procedure needs both units, how else could you transfer your data if one of the consoles are missing, right?

Data that can't be transferred - You cannot transfer passwords being logged in, PSN profile data, and un-synched trophies. It is important to take note of this beforehand before proceeding, you might need to sync your accomplishments before doing so.

If you know these basic information, it would be safer to proceed with the data transfer. Have fun, safely.
