Unannounced Nokia Lumia 920 Slim Sneaks Into Ad

Slip this one into the WTF?! File, because — perhaps, impossibly — a Slim Lumia is featured in a new Nokia Lumia 920 promo ... even before the Slim has yet to be announced publicly.

The KPN Netherlands promo shows a delightfully cherubic young blonde holding in her milk-fed fingers a dirty-lemon-colored phone on which she's seen gleefully video-chatting with a boyfriend whose unfortunate (if not wholly understandable) fixation ends abruptly when he discovers Heidi dancing with a rival suitor in the high school gym.

Don't worry: By promo's end, the unrealistically prolific young artist shifts his attention to another obsession even quicker than Romeo had in his eponymous play.

Meanwhile, we're left wondering, "Is that really a Slim Lumia that fickle coquette was using?"

Caught by MyNokiaBlog's Jay Montano on Thursday, Feb. 14, the promo does seem to be hawking a phone Nokia has yet to unveil publicly.

Then again, perhaps this IS a public announcement and launch events are simply being eschewed outright by the mobile phone company?

Hints from Montano that the phone is indeed the mythical Slim Lumia include its

  • Curvy edges
  • Not being a 620, 820, 610 or 710
  • Having a different headphone jack than similar 822
  • Being as slim as the headphone jack itself

Perhaps Montana's own obsession over the Lumia has something to do with his posting two days earlier that suggests the 920 is "a TANK," relaying another user's reasoning that "[t]he Nokia Lumia 920 might be thick and heavy, but there's a reason for it."

"It's obviously not a 920, and it doesn't match any other existing models that we can remember," says Engadget's Steve Dent.

Continuing "mobile experts' " suggestions that the mystery phone being "flaunted" by Nokia in the commercial "vaguely resembles" the Nokia Lumia 822, Engadget's report on the mysterious commercial affirms that "the headphone nub, camera pod position and tapered design don't match that model — which also appears to be smaller than the one pictured above."

It's possible, Engadget speculates, that Nokia is merely teasing Lumia fanatics with something that they'll have to wait for Mobile World Congress 2013 to see in the flesh.

One can only hope Nokia will be kind of enough to present the thing — whatever it is — in the hands of our new favorite Dutch spokesmodel.
