'The Return Of Superman' PD's Casting Invitation Turned Down By Kwon Sang Woo And Kim Kang Woo

The hit variety show "The Return of Superman" is already on its third year of featuring Korean celebrity dads and their children. With its continuously growing popularity, "The Return of Superman" producing director, Kang Bong Gyu, is thinking of boarding a few more actors for the show's upcoming episodes. However, Kwon Sang Woo and Kim Kang Woo, whom he recently approached, have reportedly turned down his offer.

"The Return of Superman's" Search For New Cast

"The Return of Superman" currently features comedian Lee Hwi Jae, professional soccer player Lee Dong Gook, actors Ki Tae Young, In Gyo Jin and Lee Beom Soo, and rapper Yang Dong Geun. With the hunks gracing the current episodes of the variety show, PD Kang Bong Gyu still wants to add well-known actors to join the powerhouse cast and increase the show's popularity further.

In his Facebook Live interview, Kang Bong Gyu revealed that he talked to "Stairway to Heaven's" Kwon Sang Woo and "Missing Noir M's" Kim Kang Woo to join his reality show. However, he said that the two rejected the invitation as they felt pressured being on the show. With the series asking 48 hours of an actor's time per episode, it can indeed be burdensome to handle all the parenting chores alone, hence the actors' decision. Yet despite their refusal, Kang Bong Gyu's hopes are still set high and would still choose to film with them if an opportunity comes again soon.

PD Seeks To Pursue Kim Sung Kyoon

Apart from Kwon Sang Woo and Kim Kang Woo, the "The Return of Superman" PD also revealed that he is eyeing actor Kim Sung Kyoon to join the current cast. "Since the beginning of the show, there was someone I wanted to have on the show," the PD said (via Soompi), referring to Kim Sung Kyoon who is now a father of four children.

Kim Sung Kyoon became famous for his role as a gangster boss' henchman in "Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time" and a serial killer in "The Neighbor." Kang Bong Gyu said that he hopes the viewers will see the actor in lighter roles since he has mostly engaged in heavy, serious roles. Plus he believes it will be fun to watch a ruthless character turning into an exuberant and adventurous father with his children in a variety show. PD Kang Bong Gyu has not mentioned though if he already reached out to the actor about his plans, but it is expected that an update will soon be revealed.
