Overwatch, The Witcher 3, Pokemon Go Bag Most Wins At 2016 Golden Joystick Awards

It's that time of the year again where the Golden Joystick Awards tallies millions of votes and gathered them into categories which ultimately turn into awards. This year, the most awards earned went to: Pokemon Go, Overwatch, and The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine. Other notable games had awards as well.

Also known as People's Gaming Awards, The Golden Joystick Awards is the second oldest award ceremony, being the Arcade Awards as the oldest. This is held by awarding the best video games of the year as voted by the general public in Britain. This year marks its 34th.

The initial nominations were focused on computer games, then later included console games, and now expanded into mobile games. In 2014, the Golden Joystick Awards achieved the highest number of votes cast, reaching as high as 9 million responses. It is important to note that the awards are most influenced by votes in a certain region of the globe, so for people outside the UK, your favorites might not win here.

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

CD Projekt Red's 2nd expansion for The Witcher 3 bagged a couple of awards as Best Visual Design and Best Storytelling. A record has been set as The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine is the first and only DLC to receive an award in any category, it has 2 so that's some amazing achievement there. Kudos goes to CD Projekt Red, one of my favorite game developers.

Pokemon Go

The popularity of Pokemon Go has reached new heights as it bags 2 awards at The Golden Joystick Awards. Being a casual-mobile game didn't stop it from earning Innovation of the Year and Handheld/Mobile Game of the Year. This is evidence that gamers nowadays aren't just sticking to their consoles, but also open to other platforms as well. This is great news for the upcoming Nintendo Switch. More power to your batteries too!

Overwatch, Overload!

Just released this May, Overwatch bagged the most at The Golden Joystick Awards. The game just won 4 categories which are: Best Original Game, Best Multiplayer Game, PC Game of the Year, and Competitive Game of the Year. This would make Chris Metzen proud and fulfilled as this is his last project at Blizzard before he retired from the game industry for good. We are still hoping that 'the face of Blizzard' will come back in the near future to work on some side projects.

Ultimate Game of the Year

This one deserves a special mention. Dark Souls III maybe the last title in the series but it didn't stop it from earning the Ultimate Game of the Year at The Golden Joystick Awards. Praise the sun for the last time. For the other awards, you may find the complete list at Gamasutra.com, thanks for summing it up for us, guys. More power to your site.
