Jelly Bean For Cheap: Samsung's New Low-End Gets Smartphone Features

The Mobile World Conference in Barcelona is underway and among the many dazzling products on display are, well, two cheaper ones.

What we're specifically referring to are the Samsung Galaxy Young and Galaxy Fame. Despite their different names, they're almost identical in terms of design and features. For those not up to speed on the devices, the Young has a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM.

This should be sufficient, but as a CNET editor wrote in his review, "The demo model I tried crashed when I tried to insert a smiley into a text message — not exactly a taxing task."

Outwardly the two devices appear quite similar, with rounded corners and a silver band around the outside. Three buttons make up the bottom portion of the phone, including a home button in the middle dividing two soft keys: one for the multitasking menu and one for going back. The Young features a fairly low resolution of 480x320-pixels and the difference is noticeable. 4 GB of storage is available. Both the Fame and the Young have a 1,300 mAh battery. It's a decent battery but if you do a lot of video or gaming you'll probably have to charge up each night. Unlike the Fame, the Young has a weak 3-megapixel camera. No word of someone testing the camera has come out but from experiences with similar cameras you could say it might not be pretty.

So why buy these devices? What they do have is Jelly Bean Android 4.2 OS, and that means a lot to many people. So if you're someone who'd like to get your hands on Jelly Bean for a cheaper price, then these two phones might be the ones for you. Just don't expect a dazzling product, or to become young or famous.
