BlackBerry Z10 Receives First Software Update

BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry's first BlackBerry 10-powered smartphone, is just over a month old and the smartphone has received its first update that promises battery life fixes, an improved camera and more.

BlackBerry launched the much-awaited BlackBerry Z10 handset in January this year and the software update version 10.0.10.85 is the first update for the smartphone.

The update is expected to offer fixes for the Gmail calendars in BlackBerry 10 and the company says that it has improved the method by which users import contacts from online sources.

The latest update is expected to improve the overall performance of third-party applications. The update will also bring camera optimization for low-light photos and improvements to how the browser is able to playback video content. However, the biggest improvement will be enhancements to battery life.

"The software team has included a number of battery life optimizations with over 60 battery saving improvements since launch to keep you moving. These combined improvements are designed so that you see improvements in battery life and heavy users especially should see a longer average usage per charge cycle," says BlackBerry.

If you have the off-contract BlackBerry Z10, then you can find the update in the device's Settings then Software Updates then Check for Updates to look for the update.

However, if you are a BlackBerry Z10 owner on a specific carrier then you will have to wait for the carrier to provide the update.

"We'll be rolling out the update with all of our carrier partners around the globe over the coming weeks," confirms BlackBerry.

The BlackBerry Z10 is yet to be released in the U.S. and carriers have not confirmed an exact release date.
