Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Heading To Bell And Virgin HTC One S

Reports indicate that HTC One S users on Canadian carriers Bell and Virgin have started to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update.

HTC One S, launched in April 2012, came pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). HTC rolled out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the One S in December 2012 across Europe. A recent report indicates that TELUS will also push out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its One S subscribers soon.

Now a report suggests that HTC One S users under both Bell and Virgin in Canada can now upgrade their handsets to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The update brings HTC Sense 4+ and also includes Google Now, Project Butter, offline speech-to-text, advanced notifications, a handful of user interface (UI) tweaks, an updated camera app with Sight Seeing mode, which allows you to launch the camera app by pressing the power button, and a new gallery app which sorts images by events and time while plotting them all out on a map.

The mid-range HTC One S has hardware specifications very close to that of the HTC One X. The One S and One X sold in North America share the same dual-core processor, though the One S lacks LTE. The One S sports an aluminum body and has a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 pixel (qHD) Super AMOLED display with PenTile matrix and a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch (ppi).

The One S' use of a PenTile display makes it more energy efficient and thinner than equivalent LCD screens, giving it better battery life than its sibling HTC One X. The One S is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera. The One S has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage.

You can also check if the update is available on your handset by heading to Menu >> Settings >> About Device >> Software Update >> Update on your HTC One S.
