Verizon Galaxy Nexus To Get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update Soon

Owners of the Samsung-made Galaxy Nexus on U.S. carrier Verizon will soon be getting a taste of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, if rumors are anything to go by. The latest version of the Android update for the Galaxy Nexus is in the works and will be pushed out to Verizon customers soon, according to reports on Droid-Life.

Considering the Galaxy Nexus is still four updates behind other Nexus devices, the software upgrade from Android 4.1 to Android 4.2.2 may seem like a big jump. However, reports indicate that the update to Android 4.2.2 is very much in the offing and is already being pushed out to beta testers.

"We know one thing, an update is indeed on the way. In a response to a frustrated DL reader on Twitter, Verizon's official support account has confirmed that there is no release date, but it will be soon," notes the Droid-Life report.

Another Droid-Life report avers that two new radios were listed — FK01 and FK02 and the kernel appeared to be "somewhat old."

Last week, Verizon Wireless responded to a user on its official support account, confirming that the Android 4.2.2 software upgrade would be pushed out soon. However, it did not disclose an official release date.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners who do not want to wait for the carrier to roll out the official Android 4.2.2 update have the option to flash the leaked ROM with the build JDQ39 on their smartphones.

XDA Developer members El Madhatter and oldblue910 have found the file on Google's servers and it's available to download and install right away.

It is advisable that users who are not familiar with rooting wait for Verizon to roll out the official Android 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy Nexus instead of flashing the leaked ROM.

The fact that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update is in the testing phase suggests that the official rollout is round the corner.
