Recently there were rumors going around that say Thomas Gibson may return to reprise his role in "Criminal Minds" season12. But the hopes of Hotch's fans were dashed by the recent confirmation that he will not be back for the upcoming season. A recent report has confirmed this fact.

Gibson Will Not Come Back

The International Business Times has reported that the showrunners have confirmed that Gibson will not come back in "Criminal Minds" season12. Apparently, his character has been already written off or will be, for the upcoming episodes of the show. There will be a new character that will fill the gap that will be left by his original character.

Gibson's return on "Criminal Minds" season12 has been much anticipated by his fans. As the BAU chief Aaron Hotchner, Gibson is somehow the show's face. His sudden exit has greatly affected his fans. Some of his fans boycotted the show and consequently, the show's ratings plummeted.

 A recent report indicated that the showrunners of "Criminal Minds" season12 have already found a replacement for Hotch's character. This report said that Damon Gupton, who previously portrayed Special Agent Stephen Walker, will take up the position of Hotchner. This confirms that Hotch will not be coming back anymore.

The Show's Ratings Are Increasing

While many fans were not happy with the new addition, there is a report that said "Criminal Minds" season12 has started to increase its ratings. Broadway World, the source of the report also added that the show has been recovering from its falling viewership a couple of months back.

There were some speculations that say viewership of Criminal Minds" season12 started to rise again due to the curiosity of the audience concerning the new characters in the show. They wanted to see if the chemistry of the new and old characters will add up just as much as the characters in the previous episode have.
