Subaru Outback Overtakes Forester To Become Best Seller

As demand in the SUV market continues to grow, so does the competition among automakers. Apparently, the competition does not end there as even models made by the same automaker also compete with each other. The Forester has always been Subaru's top seller in the SUV segment but not anymore as the Outback overtakes it and takes its place.

Passing The Big Dog

The 2017 Subaru Outback has officially overtaken the Subaru Forester to become the best seller of the automaker. It was mentioned that the sales of the 2017 Subaru Outback has gone up to 162,203 units as compared to the Forester that managed to rack up a sales number of 160,578 units. The 2017 Subaru Outback leads by a small margin but it does not change the fact that it now holds the spot that Subaru Forester used to have.

How The Outback Did It

There are several factors that helped the 2017 Subaru Outback take the lead from the Forester. Reports stated that one of the elements that gave it the edge is the fact that the 2017 Outback is manufactured in the U.S. as compared to the Forester that is still being made in Japan. In addition the 2017 Subaru Outback has also gained more popularity as it gained top awards such as ALG's Best Overall Mainstream Brand Residual Value Award and Best Midsize Utility Vehicle along with Top Safety Pick honors.

What The 2017 Subaru Outback Is Capable Of

The 2017 Subaru Outback is not exactly a very powerful vehicle but power is not exactly what buyers look for in a family vehicle. As reported, the 2017 Subaru Outback draws only 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine. This is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission that sends the power through an all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain.

The practicality aspect falls on its fuel efficiency of 25/32/28 gallons in the city, on the highway and combined respectively. This powertrain and fuel efficiency gives just the right blend for a family SUV. Given all these facts, it is no surprise why the 2017 Subaru Outback was able to overtake the Forester and become the new best seller for the Japanese automaker.
