Prevent Diabetes By Catching Sunlight

Catching some rays is not just god for your bones. It can also help prevent diabetes. A new research suggests that sufficient amounts of vitamin D in the body can make you less prone from diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

Of all the diseases that are affecting people today, diabetes and heart disease are two of the leading causes of death today. Luckily, there are ways to prevent these diseases and it includes a healthy diet and making sure that you are getting enough vitamin D.

Sunlight is one of the top sources of this vitamin which means that catching some rays on a regular basis will not just make your bones and teeth stronger, it can also make your heart stronger and improve your body's ability to regulate blood sugar.

Cause Of Diabetes And Heart Disease

Being two of the most common ailments that plague modern man, extensive research has been conducted on diabetes and heart disease. These two are linked to high cholesterol levels, increase in blood sugar levels and high blood pressure. Most people who are diagnosed with the condition also have fatty liver.

A diet which is mostly carbohydrates and fat could be to blame. However, a new research published in Frontiers in Physiology journal suggests that these conditions could also be linked to vitamin D deficiency which affects at least 30 percent of the population.

Why Sunlight Is Healthy

Vitamin D could benefit people who want to prevent heart disease and diabetes since it can balance the good and bad bacteria in the gut. People with a healthy gut are less likely to suffer from metabolic syndromes such as the two mentioned above.

Although there are vitamin D supplements available in the market, sunlight remains to be the cheapest and most direct source of this nutrient. As reported in NDTV, when there is an imbalance in the gut flora, conditions such as heart ailments and diabetes could follow.

The said study was conducted in mice and as detailed in the Health Site, research showed that vitamin D deficiency precedes the two metabolic syndromes.
