Lots of fans were excited when Playstation launched the reveal trailer for The Last of Us Part I, and though the clip doesn't really reveal that much about the story outright, some fans have pointed out that it may hint at something very crucial: The suicide of Joel.

According to a report, it's possible that the trailer hints at Joel's suicide because in the trailer, he doesn't seem to have visibly aged just like Ellie did. What's more, Ellie and the rest of the people inside the house are ragged and covered with blood, as compared to Joel who looks oddly clean. Joel is also seen holding a small revolver, which could possibly be the weapon he used to kill himself with.

Because the trailer seems to imply that Ellie was the one who murdered all the people inside the house, it's possible that Joel could be some sort of ghost that follows her around throughout the game. Oddly enough, the same mechanic happened in the Bioshock Infinite DLC, Burial at Sea. Elizabeth became the playable character as a dead Booker's ghost appeared and talked to her.

Joel was the protagonist of the first Last of Us game, but this time around, it seems that the story will focus on Ellie, who is said to be seeking revenge on someone. It's possible that it could be an entirely different character, but maybe it could be someone that had something to do with the death of Joel.

Other rumors have even come out that Ellie will be pregnant in the game. The reason for which is because some fans found an easter egg in Uncharted 4 that had an image of a pregnant girl (who is probably Ellie), wearing a gas mask and holding a gun similar to that of Joel in the trailer.

Of course, it is possible that Joel could still be alive in the game, as The Last of Us Part II is said to have a buddy combat system. Then again, that role could be filled in by an entirely new character that could follow Ellie on her bloody revenge-quest.

No official release date has been announced for The Last of Us Part II, but fans are expecting it to come out in 2017.
