Two Final Fantasy XV Ultimania guide books were released in Japan yesterday and it revealed several returning characters in the upcoming DLCs - yes, we will be having several existing characters coming into the standalone story but they will be somewhat 'tweaked' to align with the current plot. Here's everything we know so far.

To start things off according to game director Hajime Tabata, the main plot for Final Fantasy XV, is closely based on the Goddess in the "Fabula Nova Crystallis," which is the story that has ties with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Type-0. But just like how the two aforementioned titles have grown into standalone series, Final Fantasy XV will also have its own plot - and this is how the new heroine, Luna was introduced. But aside from this, according to Tabata, the main plot for Final Fantasy Versus XIII was carried over into the game.
New Characters
Iris Amicitia - It is confirmed that the younger sister of Gladiolus will take part in the upcoming DLC for Final Fantasy XV. But it was hinted that she may be unlocked in the later part of the story. It was also revealed that Iris is currently 15 of age.
Aranea Highwind - the captain of the Third Army Corps 86th Airborne Unit of the Nilfleim Empire will soon be part of your team as the translated version of the FFXV guide books revealed that the antagonist turned protagonist will be available for players in the upcoming DLC. It was revealed that Aranea is currently 30 of age.
Cor Leonis - the legendary fighter from the Kingdom of Lucis will soon reveal its prowess in battles. Just like the other two characters, Cor will also join the group in the later part of the story. It was revealed that Cor is currently 45 of age.
Lunafreya - Also known as Luna, the exclusive character and main heroine of the series is also suspected to be a playable character in the DLC. However, this is yet to be confirmed as developers are still in the works of finalizing the upcoming contents and said that "it will be done if possible."
Aside from the upcoming playable characters, the books also revealed the story behind the upcoming antagonists that will take part in the new content. Verstael Besithia in particular, is a "mad scientist" who plans to create the strongest 'existence' through his genius mind. He currently heads the research laboratory of Nilfelheim Empire.
Lastly, it was revealed that the ending of the game will be left purposely vague so that players will have to personally decide "what really happened."
