Sibling Rivalry: 2017 Subaru Outback vs 2017 Forester

Rivalries between models from different automakers are common in the auto industry. The same is true for sibling models from the same automaker. The 2017 Subaru Outback and 2017 Subaru Forester are two of the top consumer choices in the automaker's lineup. The question is which is better suited in people's garage?

Power And Fuel Economy

The 2017 Subaru Outback has a base engine that delivers 175 horsepower. It also has a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine option that makes 256 horsepower. The 2017 Subaru Forester on the other hand has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 170 horsepower and a 2.0-liter turbo engine that is capable of 250 horsepower. These engines are paired with a six-speed manual and an optional Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) as reported.

The 2017 Subaru Outback has a 25/32/28 miles per gallon in the city, highway and combined respectively while the 2017 Subaru Forester has 24/31/27 miles per gallon in the city, highway and combined. The more powerful configuration for the Outback and Forester has fuel economy of 20/27/22 and 23/27/25 in the city, highway and combined respectively.

Outward Visibility And Ride Quality

The 2017 Subaru Forester and 2017 Subaru Outback both allow drivers to see over the traffic in front of them thanks to its commanding driving position as reported. In terms of official ranking however, the 2017 Subaru Forester outranks the 2017 Subaru Outback as the former takes number one spot while the latter takes number three. The Outback and Forester are basically evenly matched in terms of ride quality with only a small difference of the former having longer axles that allows for less noticeable road bumps.

Price Wars

In a report, it was stated that the 2017 Subaru Outback is more expensive with a price of $26,645 and maxes out at $38,195. The 2017 Subaru Forester on the other hand starts at $22,395 and tops out at $33,795.

Which Is Better

Both vehicles are considered great with powerful engine configurations and optimum fuel efficiency ratings. In addition, both also have great ride quality and outward visibility. At the end of the day both are great vehicles and the choice depends on the buyers' preference and budget.
