Sony 'Togari,' Xperia A And UL Smartphone Rumors: 3 New Phones In Summer?

It seems like every few weeks now Sony is announcing a new smartphone. The Xperia Z has only recently launched, followed by announcements of the Xperia SP and L. Now comes word that Sony is getting ready to unveil another three smartphones for release this summer.

It's true the mobile world moves fast these days, but Sony's Xperia production rate seems almost like a parody of current industry trends.

According to Android Authority, new rumors originating from Japan (that's it for a source, not even the usual obligatory term "anonymous sources" is mentioned) indicate that Sony is hard at work on a phablet known as the "Togari," and two more phones dubbed the Xperia UL and Xperia A.

When it comes to details, we are unsurprisingly left high and dry. The Togari is getting all the attention because it will supposedly mark Sony's entrance into the tablet market. Considering the Xperia Z's screen is already 5 inches, the fact that a phablet's size keeps getting revised upward seems ridiculous, but apparently it's just not big enough. The Togari will reportedly measure 6.4 inches and take the crown as the world's largest phablet, beating out flashy competitors like Huawei's Ascend Mate (6.1 inches) and Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 (5.9 inches).

Of course, it will still fall short of the Asus FonePad's 7-inch display, but whether or not that beast is a tablet or phone is up for debate. It seems increasingly clear that so long as customers are willing to buy, phone makers have no problem erasing the line between tablet and phone.

Nothing was mentioned about the Togari's specs other than to say it would have Full HD resolution. Previous rumors suggested the Togari would have 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, a 3500mAh battery and a remote control feature that would control Bravia television sets.

The Xperia UL, meanwhile, won't be as impressive as it clocks in with a 5-inch screen, while the Xperia A will supposedly be Sony starting back at the beginning of the alphabet for phone names (as if it wasn't confusing enough already). The A will sport "a Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of memory, a 2,300 mAh battery inside a water and dust resistant body and the display will be either 720 or 1,080p," according to Android Authority.
