“Rise of the Tomb Raider” has seen a lot of great reviews when it was released and it has been already been revealed that another sequel is in the works. But both fans and developers are in sorrow right now as its lead writer, Rhianna Pratchett has just decided to leave the series.
Crystal Dynamics has just announced that the lead writer, Rhianna Pratchett, of the reboot of the “Tomb Raider” video game series will be leaving the said franchise. It has further revealed that Pratchett is departing from the development team to go set off in pursuit of another project, which is rumored to be another video game series. The developer and the lead writer have come to this decision and parted ways in good terms.
Crystal Dynamics has expressed their utmost gratitude for Pratchett, who have been a great help in formulating an immersive story for the origins of Lara Croft as well as the stories for the “Tomb Raider” reboot series project. On the other hand, Pratchett has also voiced out on her official Twitter account bidding farewell to the series and being grateful for the dedication that Crystal Dynamics has shown for the new “Tomb Raider” series. She also went on to thank the narrative director for Crystal Dynamics John Stafford as well as Cameron Suey and creative director Noah Hughes, who have worked with her on the writing for “Rise of the Tomb Raider”.
She has also given her thanks to the fan community of the “Tomb Raider” series because according to her, they were the reason and reminder of why she was doing this job. She has pointed out also that she will not be part of the movie adaptation of the reboot when fans asked her. Dubbing her “Tomb Raider” experience as an emotional one, she also said that she felt like she did a great thing somehow shifting the gaming landscape of “Tomb Raider” in the reboot.
Rhianna Pratchett has been on board both installments of the reboot namely “Tomb Raider” that was released in 2013 and “Rise of the Tomb Raider” that was out in 2016. Pratchett is widely known in the gaming industry as well on other media productions for her works as a video game writer, narrative designer, and journalist. If her name rings a bell, it is because she is the daughter of the late Terry Pratchett, the author who brought life to the “Discworld” novels and co-wrote “Good Omens” with Niel Gaiman.
She has worked on the story of numerous video game titles such as the “Overlord” series, “Thief”, “Bioshock Infinite”, “Prince of Persia”, and many more that displayed great plots. Aside from creating a name in the gaming industry and working on comic books, she has now even tried out film and television. In addition to making appearances in various documentaries, she is co-writing the “The Watch”, an upcoming British fantasy police television series.
“Rise of the Tomb Raider” was first released in January 2016 for the Microsoft Windows PC version. The versions for PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One were then shipped in October and November 2016. Square Enix accidentally unveiled at the Gamescom 2015 that a third installment is in the works and they have yet to announce more details about it.
