Pokemon Sun And Moon Guide: How To Transfer Pokemon From Previous Games

Pokemon Sun and Moon players can now transfer their old Pokemon from previous games. Actually, there is only one way to transfer the collection to the latest Pokemon 3DS installment.

What Pokemon Games Are Covered

Players' collection under the VC version of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow are eligible for transfer to the new Sun and Moon. Users would need to use the recent Pokemon Bank update though to make this happen.

Things Needed For Transfer

Make sure to have the VC copy of the Pokemon R, B and/or Y ready for transfer. A copy of the Sun and Moon is also required. Players must also advance to a certain point in the Sun and Moon game. Users who managed to unlock the Pokedex are qualified for the Pokemon Bank transfer.

Players can now download the Pokemon Bank update. This is basically an online storage service where Pokemon can be stored or transferred. Up to 3,000 can be kept for an annual service of around $5. Users will also need to download the Poke Transporter. This is the feature that allows the transfer of Pokemon from compatible games. Fortunately, Nintendo is giving this feature for free of charge.

Transferring One Box At A Time

The transfer though is done per box which means players should double check the box content to make sure that no Pokemon is left behind. Follow the instructions to upload your collections online. Once the transfer is complete, players will be informed to return to the Pokemon Bank.

Select the game where you want the box to be moved to. The Transport box will appear on the upper screen which you can drop to the box on the lower screen. Assuming there are no hiccups, the transfer to Pokemon Sun and Moon is complete. There is also a video walkthrough available detailing the transfer. There is a current transfer glitch though regarding MissingNo. Details of which are available in this report.
