2014 Maserati Ghibli Unveiled Ahead Of Shanghai Auto Show

The 2014 Maserati Ghibli was revealed on Tuesday April 9 ahead of the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show.

Maserati is marketing the 2014 Maserati Ghibli as its "affordable" sedan.

"The all-new Ghibli is set to break new ground for Maserati," the company said in a statement. "The Ghibli will also become the first Maserati production car in history to be powered by a diesel engine."

Those who purchase the 2014 Maserati Ghibli will have a choice between two turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engines, including a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. The vehicle will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a choice between rear-wheel drive and Maserati's "Q4" all-wheel drive. Exact specifications for the engines have not been released, but it has been reported that the diesel engine will have at least 300hp and the petrol engine will have either 330hp or 410hp. A 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 is also being planned, which should have 500hp.

According to Maserati, the 2014 Maserati Ghibli is meant to be a sportier version of the Quattroporte, geared toward upper models in the range of vehicles like the Jaguar XF and BMW 5-series. Inside, the Maserati Ghibli shares much in common with the Quattroporte, with the same gear lever, steering wheel and central monitor. One notable update is a redesigned upper region of the dashboard. As part of the luxury package, the Maserati Ghibli will include leather upholstery from Italian specialist Poltrona Frau, along with an audio system from Bowers & Wilkins.

Price and a launch date for the 2014 Maserati Ghibli have not been announced. Expect more details once the Shanghai Auto Show rolls around later this month.
