Why The $150 Oukiel U13 Is Worth Buying

A YouTube channel that goes by the name Redskull did a review regarding the OUKITEL U13.

Design

For its overall design, it is quite surprising that a smartphone that could cost around $130 to $150 (depending on where and when you buy it) could be priced at an affordable price, yet surpasses expectations. It comes with almost a full-metal body that looks pretty like a premium smartphone.

On the left side of the OUKITEL U13, you will the Power button and Volume key that are also made out of metal. On the right, you will find a SIM card tray in which you can either install two SIM cards or a SIM card and a microSD card. And because this device runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, it can easily install a microSD card as an internal memory storage.

On top, you find a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Below, you will find two speakers that are actually just one, a microphone and a microUSB charging port. Its speaker is quite loud, but when turned to the highest volume level, it gets quite a bit distorted.

Display

This OUKITEL U13 features a 5.5-inch FHD display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The color quality in this screen is nice and vibrant. Also, even though it has a 5.5-inch screen, this smartphone's body size is quite smaller compared to other phones with the same screen size.

Platform

The OUKITEL U13 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and is packed with a MediaTek MTK6753 Octa-core processor. For its software performance, multi-tasking is really good. Gaming performance is also good, but the video source did not show any samples or mentioned as to what games was it tested on. And for streaming videos, it can view videos in 1080p with no signs of any lag at all, everything is buttery smooth and fast.

Memory

The OUKITEL U13 features 64 GB of internal memory storage with 3 GB of RAM. It also has an expandable memory option.

Camera

First, let's talk about the front-facing camera. The OUKITEL U13 comes with a 8 MP front-facing camera. Regarding its performance, day shots are good, but low light shots just like most Chinese smartphones, it was not that impressive.

Next is the rear camera. The OUKITEL features a 13 MP rear camera with an OIS (optical image stabilization). However, according to the source, that feature is really felt. And regarding its camera performance, day shots are really great, while pictures taken in low light were pretty bad. However, there is a redeeming factor: if you use the HDR mode and you can hold your hands very steady when taking a shot, it will look decent enough.

Battery

The OUKITEL U13 houses a 3,000 mAh battery. Sadly, this is not one of its best features. It has no fast charging feature and its screen-on time is said to only last about 2 and a half hours.

The Verdict

Well, for a smartphone that costs $130-150, I think it is something worth buying. And to know more about this device's features, check out the video below.
