SBK: Chaz Davies Wins Race Two At Aragon

Chaz Davies has made his first double victory at SBK (Superbike World Championship), after a win at the second race at Aragon.

The race put Davies second in the overall SBK standings, with Sylvain Guintoli 22 points ahead. As was the case in the first SBK race, Davies simply outpaced Guintoli and by the finish line trailed ahead of him by five seconds.

"For me it is just an amazing day," Davies said. "I cannot explain how happy I am. My first victory with BMW and then the double win — this is something I was hoping to achieve this year but I did not expect it this early. In race one, the DNFs by Tom and Eugene definitely made it easier. In race two it seemed that I had a comfortable lead, but I had to push a lot. One of the most impressing things is the fact that we have done a lot of testing in Jerez but not here in Aragon. What a weekend!"

In the second SBK race, Davies beat out opponents that included Eugene Laverty and Tom Sykes. Following a poor performance in the first SBK race, Laverty was hoping to compensate in the second. He took the lead at the end of the championship but, in a surprising turn, crashed and as a result gained no points. Similarly, Sykes slid wide on the second lap, putting him behind after he had already regained the lead.

The SBK is a worldwide Superbike racing championship founded in 1988. The SBK championship usually takes place in Europe, but has also been held in Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, South Africa and the U.S.
