Final Fantasy XV's Development Costs Already Covered With Just Day One Sales

There are a lot of people who are curious as to how many copies Final Fantasy XV will be needing so that it can break even, and Director Hajime Tabata was interviewed about this. He made it clear that Final Fantasy XV already broke even with its development costs at Day One last Nov. 29.

Square Enix has automatically made an announcement about day one shipments, including digital downloads that reached over five million copies, thus indicating to be the fastest selling Final Fantasy game upon its debut. This only means that the five million copies can already recoup the cost, but it was not mentioned as to how many percent it was able to cover in terms of the total cost.

It can be remembered that Tabata said that Square Enix has to sell 10 million copies of the game in order to recover the expenses, according to Attack of the Fan Boy. On the contrary, he admitted that 10 million is such a high goal and it is not exactly the amount that is needed to break even.

According to Dual Shockers, there were reports last month about a number of copies that were sold already reached six million, therefore it is just safe to assume that the title is currently stable in making a profit. Tabata also said that the game is presently being utilized for the testing of visual fidelity, making around 70% of its staff working on free and paid additional content.

Square Enix has also recently shown a trailer of Episode Gladiolus and Episode Prompto, and another more interesting news about the early prototype of the regalia that has been modified to drive off-road. A game like Final Fantasy XV has been through a long period of development so its cost might surely be high, but the cost was never exactly revealed.
