Galaxy S4 To Battle Xperia Z With Waterproof Specs In Future Release?

Just because the Galaxy S4 was announced, confirmed and now is set to land in most stores by the end of this week, doesn't mean that the rumors will stop. News recently hit the Internet suggesting that Samsung may announce a waterproof and dustproof version of the Galaxy S4.

Waterproof phones may be a new trend among smartphone manufacturers, since Sony's Xperia Z waterproof and dustproof design is doing fairly decently on the market. Water-resistant smartphones appeal especially to accident-prone people. We all know someone who has experienced the horror of dropping their phone in the toilet; maybe you're even that someone.

Since it was released in February, Sony Xperia Z's reported sales are an estimated 4.6 million, within 40 days. These sales figures place it right at the top with some of Samsung's most popular selling phones, including the Galaxy Note 2, which sold 3 million units within five weeks. Samsung could be taking a page out of Sony's book and creating a waterproof device like the Xperia Z. According to a report from TechView.me, new information about a possibly waterproof Galaxy S4 hitting the market came during a Q&A session at a Samsung Galaxy S4 conference in Dubai.

When a question came up about why Samsung has yet to make a waterproof device, Young Soo Kim, the president of Samsung Gulf, said that one is in the works. This "ruggedized" Galaxy S4, said to be dust- and water-repellent, will allegedly be announced in the coming weeks. Although just a rumor for now, this may not be such a bad move for other smartphone manufacturers to meet the demands of consumers and offer smartphones that are built to last.
