Single High Fat Meal Can Be Bad For Metabolism

High fat meals is a health risk. People who indulge in them can be at risk with a number of health issues. However, even a single high fat meal can be bad for the metabolism.

Fastfood has been seen as one of the culprits for weight issues. Many who are into it have been noted to have a tendency towards health issues. Researchers have found out that even one single high fat meal can have effects on the body already.

The researchers from the German Diabetes Center (Deutsches Diabetes-Zentrum) and the Helmholtz Center have conducted an experiment that replicates the effects of a high fat meal on people. The study has one single dose of palm oil drink which is the equivalent to the amount of saturated far found in two cheeseburgers with bacon together with French fries. It could also be compared to two salami pizzas.

The study had the participants either take the palm oil drink or a glass of water. The aim of the study is to show that even a single high fat meal is enough to reduce insulin's resistance and to increase fat in the liver. The changes have been observed to be the same as those that happen with type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Professor Dr. Michael Roden is the Managing Director and Chairman of DDZ as well as the German Center for Diabetes Research. He has said that the single drink of palm oil already has a rapid and direct effect on the liver. To monitor the liver, magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used, according to the DZD's site.

The palm oil drink has affected the muscles, liver and fatty tissues. With the insulin resistance found, sugar accumulated in the liver and the bones has decreased sugar absorption. More fat has been released into the blood stream as well, as Science Daily reports.

With the study, it has been shown that a single high fat meal can already have detrimental effects. A single high fat meal can be bad for metabolism. A study has shown that belly fat can lead to heart disease.
