'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Finale Death Theories: Who Will Most Likely Die?

Three weeks, three episodes to go before fans say goodbye to Mystic Falls, "The Vampire Diaries" showrunner Julie Plec herself dropped the bomb. A major character will die in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 finale. However, the biggest question is who?

A scene in the finale was revealed to be a funeral. Elena is standing in the Mystic Falls cemetery surrounded by her loved ones however, one person is missing. "We wanted to go big, emotionally, with the action, and with the spectacular of it," Plec told Entertainment Weekly. Here are the most likely candidates on who will die in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 finale.

Stefan Salvatore

Turning human makes Stefan number one in the death list. He almost died in episode 13 with a gunshot. Many are speculating he will be the one to die, sacrificing himself for Elena and Damon's happiness. Maybe he would consider this his redemption. Previously, Plec hinted in an interview that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 would end with a mixture of happy and sad ending. A happy ending for Damon and Elena and a sad ending for Stefan feels like the correct formula.

Bonnie Bennett

Just Elena's confirmed comeback in the finale is enough for fans to speculate Bonnie would die. Bonnie's life is connected to Elena thanks to Kai's spell, Elena won't wake up while Bonnie is alive. Kai previously promised he would undo the spell but take off with the casket instead. There are speculations that Bonnie would make the ultimate sacrifice to wake Elena.

Damon Salvatore

This is a rather wild theory. There are speculations that Damon would die and Stefan and Elena would end up together. Apparently, this could be a way so that the original couple would be together without Elena shouldering the burden of having to choose between the two brothers. The other choice would be eliminated.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 finale will air on Friday, March 10.
